Harry MacCormack started farming at Sunbow Farm in 1972. He has always grown a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and grains. To market his produce he co-founded the Corvallis Saturday Market and the Peoples Wednesday Market in Portland. For two decades he marketed in Newport and sat on that market's board. Now he is farming full time all year round to provide produce for Corvallis by sending the Certified Organic produce list out on a weekly email list. Farm direct is cheaper and is fresh produce. He was the Co-founder and 1st Executive Director of Oregon Tilth which was incorporated at Harry's Sunbow Farm in Corvallis , and where the publication In Good Tilth was created. Harry is currently Director of The Institute of BioWisdom which provides farming/gardening workshops, and was a founding board member of Ten Rivers Food Web, a three county local food systems organizing effort. |
| He is credited as starting the Southern Willamette Valley Bean and Grain Project. He is a Partner in Willamette Seed and Grain which is a coalition of Farmers that Grows in our Valley for our Valley. At 70 he continues to farm, consult, write, teach and speak in all kinds of venues. In 2009 he published the 4th edition of The Transition Document : Toward A Biologically Resilient Agriculture- in cooperation with Oregon Tilth.. In 2011 Cosmic Influences On Agricultural Processes was published. He has published hundreds of articles on agricultural topics, 5 books of poetry, and has authored 6 stage plays and two movie scripts. In retirement after serving 31 years as an instructor at OSU he has published two novels, Sweet Sam and Kokopelli for President and is working on a third. He was elected to the Oregon Tilth Board for a term beginning in 2013. He is currently the President of the Board of The Tilth Foundation, and he is an organizer with Benton County Community Rights Coalition working on protection of our Food System rights. | |
