Why should I choose Oregon Tilth?
Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO) is a leader in certification services while also supporting the growth of our industry by advocating, educating and promoting the benefits of organic agriculture. We have staff located throughout the country and in an effort to minimize cost to you we utilize contract inspectors who can bundle inspections regionally. We have a Farmer Hotline that is available to answer any questions you may have about certification or the NOP standard in general (during 9am to 5pm PST). As an OTCO client you will have access to all of your certification documentation via your MyOTCO account, an online portal that can be accessed 24/7 at your convenience.
When will my certification be granted?
Normally the process takes 90 days for full certification to be granted. In the mean time your certification with Clemson will remain valid and you can sell organic product under that certificate. We will do everything we can to expedite your certification to best serve you. Just let us know any special needs you may have.
Do I need to have an inspection done by Oregon Tilth this year?
Yes, the National Organic Program requires that an inspection is conducted for any client moving to a new certification agency prior to granting of certification.
Will I have to change my product labeling?
Yes, upon receiving certification through Oregon Tilth you will have to update your labels to state "Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth". If you have back log of labels please contact us and we will brainstorm solutions for you.
How much will it cost?
Oregon Tilth fees are assessed using the gross sales of organic products from the previous year. Additional inspection fees also apply, normally the inspection ranges between $300-$700 depending on the complexity of your operation. All of this information is available in our Fee Schedule. If you have any question about this we would be happy to assist in getting you a quote. At the time of application we ask for the certification fee and a $200 deposit towards inspection to be paid. As mentioned above, if you choose to move your certification to Oregon Tilth we will waive the $75 new applicant fee.
