Beginning and more experienced farmers will learn all aspects of raising hogs on pasture at the Hogs 101 class to be held at Possum Run Farm on Saturday, April 30, 2011.

Hogs 101 covers all aspects of raising hogs for your own family, custom slaughter and retail sale with USDA slaughter. Workshop topics include weaner pig selection, feeding and managing feeder hogs, marketing farm-raised pork, farming systems and husbandry to raise and finish hogs.

"The resurgence of interest in growing and producing local food is amazing!" According to Arno Bergstrom, Director of WSU Kitsap Extension, "We get so many calls with questions about raising livestock that we scheduled a series of 101 classes to address the need."  The series began with Chickens 101 early in April, Hogs 101 is the second in the series and Cows 101 will follow in May.

Hogs 101 will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011, 10:00am - Noon at:
Possum Run Farm
