The Local Food Connection brings together local food producers and buyers to make business connections and to talk about the advantages of producing and selling food locally. These business relationships strengthen the local economies of Benton, Lane and Linn counties.
The third annual Local Food Connection – Linking Farmers, Fishers and Food Buyers will be held on Monday, February 2, 2009, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm at the Lane Community College, Center for Meeting & Learning in Building 19. Participants will have the opportunity to network, discuss current food issues, and problem solve.
Presented by Cascade Pacific Resource Conservation & Development (CPRCD), the event will feature keynote speaker David Lively, Marketing Director at Organically Grown Company. Founded by farmers, Organically Grown Company purchases over 90 percent of its products directly from growers. In addition, the Local Food Connection will feature ten workshops. Topics include transportation, delivery and storage solutions; starting a commercial kitchen; meat inspection; effective marketing and PR, and institutional purchasing. There will also be a hands-on demonstration on butchering a pig.
Lunch will feature locally grown products provided by local farmers and fishers and prepared by local chefs.
CPRCD, along with Oregon Tilth, the Eugene Water & Electric Board and Lane Community College – Center for Meeting and Learning are excited to present this opportunity for learning and networking.
