The Oregon DEQ is drafting new Rules for Composting Facilities in Oregon that will impact on-farm composting. In response to critical public comments after they released the first draft rule, they are proposing a new approach. The following aspects will be of interest to agricultural composters:
- Requirement for a LUCS
- Criteria used for assessing the environmental and human health risk of compost operations
- Discussion of restrictions on the types of feedstock for “low” and “significant” risk operations.
- This approach is different from the previous proposal in that it does not set prescriptive limits on agricultural exemptions based on volume and feedstock source.
This drop-in forum is being held November 18th from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Oregon State University, Crop Science Bldg. Rm 138.
