You are invited to learn basic on-farm, field techniques to develop and adapt seed varieties for organic farming conditions.
In this two-day workshop organic plant breeders Dr. John Navazio (Organic Seed Alliance and Washington State University) and Dr. Jim Myers (Oregon State University) will teach how to select for reproductive fitness and yield, horizontal resistance to disease, and improved performance under heat, drought, and cold stress. Farmer, seed grower and plant breeder, Frank Morton of Wild Garden Seed, will share his perspective on managing seed and breeding projects on a working farm. Teaching will include both classroom and on-farm field activities. Basic seed saving skills are recommended, as teaching will focus on methods for on-farm breeding and variety improvement building upon a foundation of basic seed knowledge.
