As a beneficiary, Plate and Pitchfork supports the work of the OEC by:
• Growing scholarship programs so community members on limited
incomes can attend classes and workshops that teach organic food growing
skills. In addition to monthly workshops on urban agriculture topics,
the OEC offers Comprehensive Trainings throughout the season for people
to learn the ins and outs of growing a successful, year round food
garden in the city.
• Helping to purchase seeds and supplies for the organic
demonstration garden at Luscher Farm which serves as an outdoor
classroom for kids and adults to engage in the process of how food gets
from the soil to the plate. Throughout the growing season, hundreds of
pounds of fresh, organic produce from the garden are donated to local
food banks and social service agencies.
