The Board of Oregon Tilth has recently created a new Advisory Committee in response to requests from the two Oregon Tilth founders, Harry MacCormack  and Lynn Coody. The purpose of the committee is to encourage advice, suggestions and feedback directly from the membership to the board, and to encourage broad membership participation and collaboration within Oregon Tilth’s organizational structure.

Committee members may be self-nominated or selected but are subject to board approval, with the intent of maximizing the broadest possible representation. The new Committee can have between eight and 10 members and, in addition, two board members will also serve on the committee as non-voting members. The Executive Director will serve as a non-voting, ex officio member of the committee.

Importantly, the membership in the Committee will be open to all members including those actively certified by Oregon Tilth. This new structure will allow the organization’s client-members more of a voice in the organization’s governance without becoming a conflict of interest for the organization’s certification program.

Members interested in participating in this committee should submit a letter of interest to the Board President, Miguel Guerrero, by email (miguel@guerrero.com). Letters should be received by December 12, 2012. Select candidates will be nominated for appointment at the next meeting of the Board of Directors, scheduled for December 19.

Should there be more interested members than available seats on this committee, the candidates’ experience, length of involvement with the organization, and availability to serve will constitute some of the selection criteria for appointment. Interested members not selected will have further opportunity to serve at a later date.
