Dear Ms. Benham,
We’re writing in support of Gwendolyn’s appointment to serve as the certifier representative on the National Organic Standards Board.
Gwendolyn’s strength as a candidate resides in the depth and diversity of technical work experience and perspectives she will bring to the NOSB certifier seat. From farm operations to food science and processing, her expertise covers all the links in the food supply chain. With 15 years experience in organic certification, Gwendolyn has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the NOP regulations and how they apply to producers and handlers. She regularly delivers trainings and presentations to the food industry and organic certifiers and attends and participates in NOSB meetings on Oregon Tilth’s behalf by providing public comment and technical presentations on specific issues.
The NOSB serves a critical role in the partnership between government regulators, the organic community & industry stakeholders. The NOSB certifier seat offers a unique perspective because it must constantly balance the need for strict standards demanded by consumers and sensible requirements that are attainable by certified operations as well as verifiable by certifiers, thereby facilitating the continued growth and success of the organic sector. Gwendolyn’s commitment to serving the interests of consumers, producers and handlers of organic products will provide the NOSB with a well-informed & balanced perspective.
While her technical expertise and extensive experience provide a solid foundation, we believe Gwendolyn’s exceptional interpersonal and networking skills make her uniquely qualified to serve on the NOSB. She maintains positive industry relations with producers, handlers, certifiers, trade organizations, current NOSB members and NOP staff. She employs astute diplomatic skills to bridge differing viewpoints and overcome obstacles. These skills make her an asset to any group effort working towards a common goal.
Thank you for your consideration.
Chris Schreiner, Executive Director
