House Appropriations Committee to decide ag funding levels

The House Appropriations Committee has released the schedule for appropriations mark-ups, and the target funding limits of each appropriations bill.

The House Appropriations Committee has released the schedule for appropriations mark-ups, and the target funding limits of each appropriations bill. On May 24, the Appropriations Subcommittee will focus on Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, Rural Development, and other related areas. The Full Appropriations Committee is scheduled to mark-up the agriculture funding bill on May 31.

The level for Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration is $17.25 billion, $2.672 billion less than Fiscal Year 2011 and $5.041 billion less than the President's Fiscal Year 2012 request. These target levels can change throughout the appropriations process.

Funding levels for programs important to the organic industry, including the NOP, Organic Data Initiative, Organic Transitions Research Program, and Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas, will be discussed in the mark-up.
