The USDA – NOP Final Rule states that accredited certifiers must prevent conflict of interest by not giving advice or providing consultancy services to certification applicants or certified operators for overcoming identified barriers to certification. Oregon Tilth remains free to provide information and clarification regarding organic standards and certification procedures and applicable laws and rules without restriction. Oregon Tilth also continues to provide general educational service.

Organic Processing Institute (OPI)
A nonprofit organization that helps organic farmers and processors succeed in the marketplace. OPI will work in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa to help these groups overcome barriers to producing value-added organic products such as:
  • Licensing, inspection, and regulation
  • lack of financial support for local food system expansion
  • limited training resources for beginners
  • low profit margins in the food processing sector
  • the seasonality of much local processing
