Dear Friend of Oregon Tilth,

Every day we hear reasons why people believe the work that Oregon Tilth is doing is important.

A farmer in Hood River, Oregon said that the Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO) program helped him access new markets and price premiums from buyers interested in supporting local, sustainable food. Oregon State University’s Small Farms Program uses our network of organic growers to participate in on-farm research projects, host tours for classes of beginning farmers, and help set the organic research and outreach agenda for OSU Extension. The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service relies on us to improve their technical and financial assistance to organic producers and those interested in transitioning to organic. And a food bank director in Portland let us know how far donated organic produce from our demonstration garden goes in fighting hunger in our communities.

We have always taken great pride in our ability to support Tilth’s education, advocacy and research programs through the earnings of our certification program (OTCO). But trends emerging in the recent years are straining this funding model. The costs of operating a second-to-none certification program have skyrocketed. And, a rising number of for-profit certifiers with no educational programs have eroded our ability to compete with the best of them.

Today, I am writing to ask if you will join us with a $150 donation to support Oregon Tilth’s education, advocacy and research programs. Oregon Tilth is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, so your donation is tax deductible.

At this level, individuals become Lifetime Members of Oregon Tilth, receive the acclaimed In Good Tilth magazine, and receive discounts on Oregon Tilth classes. Please visit our Web site to donate today.

Our diverse educational services—from organic gardening classes to biologically sound landscape design—push forward a global sea change toward organic agriculture. Your support of these efforts will benefit the whole organic movement, helping to increase the demand for and availability of organic products in our communities. Thanks for all of your support and have a wonderful holiday season.

Sincerely,

Chris Schreiner

Executive Director of Oregon Tilth

P.S. Donations at all levels are most appreciated.

Thank you for considering a tax-deductible contribution to Oregon Tilth.  We are grateful for your interest and participation in a sustainable, accessible, and equitable food future!  If you are interested in donating materials and tools, which will directly enhance our garden-based, hands-on education programs, please visit the Garden Wish List
