TO VETERANS TO BE OUR FUTURE FARMERS
Veterans face significant challenges — transitioning back to civilian life, unemployment, depression and more — when returning from active duty.
We believe that we can help provide support and opportunities for our veterans when they come home. In partnership with the Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC), Oregon Tilth is pleased to participate in a growing effort to support military veterans transitioning to a career in organic agriculture.
Oregon Tilth exempts any military-owned farm from paying base certification fees. The fee waiver is granted to new applicants and renewing certified farmers that can demonstrate military service.
Annual inspection costs and administrative fees still apply, but are eligible for cost share reimbursement.
Confirmation of primary farm ownership by a military veteran is necessary in order to be granted the fee waiver. For more information, please contact Oregon Tilth at (503) 378-0690.
The Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) Organic Training Program provides technical and financial support for its members’ costs to organically certify their farms, from the new application fee through certification.
In addition to Oregon Tilth’s farmer-veteran certification fee waiver, FVC can provide first come, first served reimbursement to its members to help cover the remaining costs of organic certification such as inspection fees and related expenses.
