Mid-Valley Community Food System Gathering

April 8, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Free

Join farmers, gardeners, volunteers, food processors, and eaters for a morning of learning and collaboration. We’ll kick-off the morning with updates from folks who have been working to create stronger, more resilient community food systems in the Mid-Valley.
From there, Nellie McAdams with Rogue Farm Corps, will discuss The Future of Oregon’s Agricultural Land, which was a study done in collaboration between Rogue Farm Corps, OSU Extension: Center for Small Farms & Community Food Systems, and Portland State University.

We will wrap up with networking and discussion through open space sessions on a variety of topics. When you register, you will be asked what topics you would like to discuss – the answers to this questions will form the topics for the open space sessions. Possibilities range from food access, farm to school, local food education/literacy, support for local farmers, a local food guide, and more!

Afterwards, there will be an optional tour of the Salem Saturday Market where you will learn the history of the market and about the farmers who frequently sell at the market. The tour will take place from 12:30-1:30pm.

Morning tea and coffee, as well as snacks will be provided.
This event is a follow-up from the first Mid-Valley Food Summit in February 2016. During this Gathering there will be an update on the work that has happened in the past year. If you’re interested in helping to plan a second Mid-Valley Food Summit in early 2018, please come to this Gathering and join our efforts!
