On Farm Food Safety One Day University

March 22, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm $50

Tilth Alliance One Day University will host the WSDA Food Assistance and Regional Markets Program for an in-depth look at the current regulations and certifications for on-farm food safety. Whether it’s the new Produce Safety Rule under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that sets the first legal requirements for produce growers or the voluntary Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification that some buyers expect, these evolving regulations and market expectations can be difficult for small and direct marketing farms to track. What does it mean for small farms?

Get the most current information about how farms, crops and handling practices are impacted. WSDA will review small farm exemptions, compliance deadlines, plans for education and enforcement, and how these requirements compare to the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards.

The morning session activities will teach farms how to assess their own risk and start their own food safety planning and record-keeping process. Get tailored assistance with farmer peers and resource experts by your side!

The afternoon session will engage participants with two panel presentations. We’ll hear from farmers who have adopted on-farm food safety practices to understand their motivations and their practical strategies for implementing practices. We’ll also hear from buyers to understand market expectations related to produce safety.
